Ever get a song so stuck in your head that you had to learn it? And then video yourself playing it and throw it online? Sometimes that happens to me.

Scenes from what I hope is the one and only movie about Khan Noonien Singh, accompanied by Fiona Apple‘s “Get Him Back.”

It’s been three years since a Star Trek movie. I’m jonesing. So I’m making stuff.
Last year, I made a teaser trailer using footage from the 2009 Star Trek reboot film. I’d recently discovered the British band Sound of Guns and thought their song “Lightspeed” was perfectly appropriate.
The sequel to that movie, which I really really hope isn’t about Khan, but is probably about Khan, is set for release around May of 2013. That gives me ten months in which to splice up trailers for the previous ten Star Trek movies. Yes, I’ll be doing one of these a month. For the good and bad films, the evens and the odds. In order, of course, so the first one is 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, with the song “Believe” by The Bravery. Enjoy!

That mobile software company I write for (and is becoming more and more like an actual main job than one of several gigs) does regular short videos on cool tech news. They asked me to write the last one, and then said what the heck, want to host it too? Since I am a sucker for a stage, of course I said, “Sure!”
I hope you enjoy my debut as Carson Daly/Ryan Seacrest/Michael Swaim. Oh, I suppose there’s actual content too.
Key takeaways from this video:
- Mobile devices are spreading faster than older technologies did.
- Samsung’s Smart App Challenge 2012 offers more than $4 million in prizes to developers.
- SHAPES+ offers virtual interactive games teaching colors, numbers, and shapes.

Yes, I’ve changed the design of the site again. It’s more bloggy than ever, but don’t worry – you can still hear my music any time you want, and I’ll still be posting more of it.
But I wanted this site to reflect more of myself. I don’t play music all the time; it’s not my career and I’m not sure I’d want it to be. You’ll start to see more writing, photography, and other creative stuff, either right here on the site or links to published work. Some of it will be more hobby-grade, while some will be professional.
I’m also gonna start tagging things. No more of this “Uncategorized” nonsense.
